Chris Ruhlander is always up for a challenge. So, when the owner of Argo Custom Canvas & Upholstery was asked to restore a 210 Ski Nautique boat, he knew the meticulous project would require a marine fabric to match.
The owner of the 2009 Scott Byerly Ski Nautique, marketed as the best ski boat on the planet and known the world over for its record-breaking performances, turned to Ruhlander in 2020 with a specific request: Update his beloved 11-year boat to match the latest models. Ruhlander specified Sunbrella® Horizon®, an engineered synthetic leather that he knew would bring the owner unparalleled style, comfort, and performance on the water.
“The first time I held Sunbrella Horizon I knew it was going to change my life,” he said. “The four-way stretch action of the product is unbelievable. For a fabricator, stretchability makes life so much easier. I love fabricating with it and knew it would be a perfect fit for the Nautique project.”
Crafted to meet the brand standards of artistry, craftsmanship, and performance, Sunbrella Horizon is a best-in-class marine vinyl upholstery fabric. Available from Trivantage, the fabric features an industry-leading three-year warranty against microbial pink staining and a five-year general product warranty. The product also has a proprietary topcoat ensuring enhanced cleanability and extended life.
Sunbrella Horizon comes in more than 30 different styles to match the artistry and craftsmanship of other Sunbrella products, and its knit-backed construction promotes both the four-way stretch and recovery action that make it the perfect choice for new and restorative projects, including boat seating.
“The Nautique project offered our shop an amazing opportuning to completely redo the interior of this iconic boat,” Ruhlander said. “I needed a vinyl fabric that would match the trust the owner placed me, and I knew I had it in Sunbrella Horizon.”
Argo Custom Canvas & Upholstery is located in Mokena, Illinois, south of Chicago, and Ruhlander opened another location in Stuart, Florida, near West Palm Beach in early 2021. He specializes in high-end custom work, another reason why he turns to marine upholstery fabrics that perform.
“Ninety-five percent of my projects use Sunbrella Horizon, and that’s due in no small part to the product’s craftmanship,” Ruhlander said. “Quality is job one for my customers, and from the hand of the fabric to its symmetry, you can see the difference with Horizon.”
